Cuttack: Purighat Police in Cuttack on Sunday recorded the statement of Varsha Priyadarshini, Ollywood actress and wife of MP Anubhav Mohanty, in connection with domestic violence and dowry torture case which had lodged against her husband.
The statement was recorded under Section 161 of CrPC. In the statement, Varsha reportedly revealed details about her complaint she made against her husband.
In her complaint, Varsha had alleged that her husband Anubhav Mohanty prevented her entry into the bedroom on Friday night and forced her to stand alone on the road outside the in-laws residence for around one hour.
She mentioned that Anubhav and two of his associates locked her room and barred her from entering the house on Friday night. Varsha stated that her husband has not allowed her to stay in the in-laws’ house.
Following the actress’ complaint, a team from Purighat police station rushed to the house of the actor and has started an investigation.
Acting on the complaint, a case was registered under section 498 (A), 506 and 341of IPC against Mohanty and his two associates.
Earlier on August 7, Varsha had filed a domestic violence case at the Cuttack Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (SJDM) court accusing the BJD MP of torturing her physically and mentally.
Prior to Varsha’s case, Anubhav had filed a divorce petition at the Patiala House Court in Delhi on July 6. Later on September 19, Varsha had moved the Supreme Court seeking transfer of the divorce petition to the Family Court in Cuttack.
On the other hand, Mohanty on Saturday wrote to Odisha DGP Abhay over a viral audio clip and urged for an investigation while seeking police protection.
In his letter to the DGP, Mohanty said that the audio clip, which went viral last month, seems to be a telephonic conversation amongst him, his wife and Varsha’s two sisters was extremely abusive and hateful.
He further said that if the voices in the viral audio clip are found to be authentic, he and his family members must be given police protection.
The MP’s move came a day after his wife and actress VarshaPriyadarshini filed a fresh complaint with the Purighat police alleging that attempts are being made to defame her by making some videos viral.
