Bhubaneswar: In an all-out effort against the Covid-19 infection, the Ganjam district administration has launched ‘zero active case’ mission.
District Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange said the aim of the mission is to reduce the spread of new infection. He said a whopping 9,000 to 10,000 samples are being tested on a daily basis in the district.
“I know stopping coronavirus is not easy, because in some cases, another wave is being observed. We held a meeting today and decided to launch mission ‘zero active case.’ We reviewed our SOPs and methods to control the new infection and will work on that,” Kulange said.
He said that active cases have dropped below 2,000 for the first time in the district in a long time and it currently stands at 1,935. “In the coming one week, two blocks will have zero active cases,” he added.
On the other hand, the fatalities from coronavirus continue to rise in the State even as significant drop has been witnessed in the positivity rate (percentage of samples testing positive).
According to the Health Department data, 56,479 samples were tested for coronavirus in the last 24 hours of which results of 2,698 came positive, reflecting a positivity rate of 4.77 per cent. The State’s overall positivity rate stands at 6.2 per cent.
Odisha reported 10 more deaths in last 24 hours taking the toll to 390. Ganjam district accounted for four deaths while two deaths were reported from Bhubaneswar and one each from Angul, Koraput, Nayagarh and Subarnapur.
