Bhubaneswar: At a time when Coronavirus is fiercely spreading its tentacles and tightening its grip in Odisha, the State's COVID-19 death toll has registered an over 100 per cent increase over the past 10 days.
As many as 12 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 10 days, taking the total number of deaths to 23 in the State. Besides, over 2100 positive cases have been detected in the State in the last 10 days.
On Monday, 245 more persons tested positive for the virus in the State while two persons succumbed to the disease.
The two deaths were reported from Ganjam - the district which tops the State in both COVID-19 positive cases (1367) and deaths (12).
Meanwhile, of the new positive cases registered on Monday, Ganjam recorded the highest 96 infected persons with Jajpur following the suit at 40 cases. Similarly, Khurda registered 28 cases and Bhadrak 10 cases.
Out of the 245 cases, 214 cases have been reported from quarantine centres across Odisha while 31 were local cases, informed Odisha Information & Public Relations Department.
Two NDRF/ODRAF personnel, who had returned from cyclone Amphan duty in West Bengal, also tested positive for the virus.
As per the I&PR department, 4619 RT-PCR tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative tests in the state till now to 260428. The active cases in the State now stand at 2086 and 4743 recoveries (till June 28).
