Bhubaneswar: Covid-19 situation in Odisha continued to remain grim as 461 persons tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours, according to the State I & PR Department on Friday. This is the highest single-day spike in the last over two months time.
Earlier on Thursday, the State had reported 394 new cases after witnessing 200-plus cases for almost seven consecutive days last month.
Of the new cases detected on Friday, 272 were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 189 were local transmission cases.
Nuapada reported a maximum of 86 cases followed by Khordha (69), Sundargarh (62), Kalahandi (36), Bargarh (32), Angul (27), Cuttack (22), Sambalpur and Balasore 16 cases each, added the I & PR department.
Nuapada has so far reported a total of 8,023 Covid-19 cases till date which included 309 actives cases, 27 deaths and 7,687 recoveries.
With the inclusion of Friday's figure, the number of coronavirus cases in the State surged to 3,41,772 which included 2,586 active cases while 3,37,212 patients have been cured or recovered.
The State has so far tested over 91,03,948 samples including 30,716 on Thursday. Odisha’s positivity rate stands at 3.75 per cent, a data released by the Health and Family Welfare department stated.
The State government on Wednesday had issued a set of guidelines for the month of April for the effective control of novel coronavirus infections. The Special Relief Commissioner has empowered the District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners to enforce micro-containment zones after careful evaluation of the situation.
"The Containment Zones will be notified by the respective District Collectors/ Municipal Commissioners and information will be shared with MoHFW. The notification shall be uploaded by the District Collector and by the State on their websites," the notification issued by the SRC read.
"With the detection of new positive cases, Containment measures, as prescribed by MoHFW, Government of India/ H&FW Department, Government of Odisha, shall be scrupulously followed in the containment zones. Awareness shall be created in communities on COVID-19 appropriate behaviour," the notification added.
