Bhubaneswar: Apprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the ground situation in the State and the preparedness to tackle COVID-19, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that the Centre should consider continuing with the restrictions on trains and flight services to the State this month.
As June is the toughest month for Odisha due to the massive influx of migrants from other states and arrival of monsoon, the Centre should continue restrictions on train and air travel to Odisha, said CM Naveen during PM Modi's second round of meeting with chief ministers.
The Chief Minister further said that the national-level examinations should be conducted only after completion of the State-level Plus 2 examinations.
He also raised the issue of repatriation of Odia people stranded in Gulf countries and said the Centre should take steps to bring them back as most of them are engaged in low paying jobs.
PM Modi held the interaction with CMs via video conferencing to discuss the post-Unlock 1.0 situation and plans to tackle COVID-19 pandemic. CMs of 15 states and Union Territories participated in the meeting.
Earlier today, CM Naveen said that 'Covid Care' homes will be set up in every panchayat of the State and to decentralise the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, 'Ward Committees' will be formed including members at the ward-level - ASHA, Anganwadi, SHG and ANM workers.
"June is going to be crucial in the State's fight against COVID-19. Lockdown is gradually being lifted and we have to focus on both lives and livelihoods. Now, we need to be extra careful. It's a long battle and we can win it only through proper awareness," he said.
