Ganjam: At least four frontline warriors who were engaged in managing Covid-19 crisis in Ganjam district succumbed to the disease while undergoing treatment, informed the district administration on Monday.
“We lost our four Covid Warriors. Entire district administration is with their families. We request all people in Ganjam to follow social distancing norms. By doing this you will help our covid warriors in fighting this war,” tweeted Ganjam district Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
The Covid-19 warriors have been identified as Bharati Swain who was working as an Anganwadi worker at Kholakhali village under Buguda block of the district, Simanchal Satapathy- a Junior teacher (contractual) at S. Pankalbadi Primary High School under Kabisuryanagar block, P. Suresh Kumar- a Junior Engineer (JE) in Dharakote block and Sudhartha Shankar Pandhy- a teacher at K.Raisingi Upper Primary School under Aska block in the district.
In a statement to the family members of the four Covid-19 warriors, Kulange said that their dedication and devotion while discharging their duties will set an example and inspire others in the war against Covid-19.
Earlier on July 4, an anganwadi worker engaged at a quarantine centre in Kholkhali area of Ganjam district died. Her family members alleged that although she was suffering from fever and cold for one week, the district administration did not take steps to conduct her Covid test.
Meanwhile, the Covid-19 tally in the district rose to 2,348 with detection of 166 new cases in the last 24 hours. While the district has 1,008 active cases, 1,318 people have recovered from the disease so far.
