Odisha has been witnessing extremely heavy rainfall since Sunday throwing life out of gear in several parts of the State with Puri and Bhubaneswar witnessing all-time high rainfall on Monday.

Puri witnessed highest 341 mm rainfall in 24 hours breaking the record of 87 years, as per a data released by the Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar recorded between 8.30 am on Sunday and 7.30 am today.
The last time when Puri had witnessed such rainfall was on September 20, 1934. The pilgrim city had then logged 210.8 mm rainfall in a day.

Bhubaneswar also broke 63-year-old record as the Capital City recorded 195 mm rainfall between 8.30 and (September 12) and 8.30 am (September 13) , said the IMD centre here. The City had recorded 163 mm rainfall in a day on September 5, 1958.
Similarly, Paradip received 219 mm rainfall followed by Gopalpur (64 mm), Chandabali (46 mm) and Balasore (24 mm) during the period.
It may be noted that the depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast moved west-northwestwards during past six hours with a speed of 5kmph and intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over northwest Bay of Bengal, very close to north Odisha coast and close to southeast of Chandbali, informed the Met Centre earlier in the morning today.
Similarly, orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been sounded for Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Boudh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Khordha, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Cuttack.
Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Kendrapara, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj district till September 14.
The Met Centre has also issued yellow warning for heavy rainfall Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh and Keonjhar from 8.30 am of September 14 to 8.30 am of September 15.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed in separate wall collapse incidents in Kendrapara district on Monday. While one death was reported from Badabetara village under Garadpur area, the other was from Banipur Dihasahi under Derabish block of the district. On the other hand, the School and Mass Education department on Monday announced to close schools in all the 12 district.
