With cyclone Yaas approaching towards the Odisha coast, the State government has so far evacuated more than 2 lakh people from vulnerable locations to safer places in 10 districts which are likely to be affected by the storm.
As per the data released by the State Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), 2,10,621 people have been shifted to cyclone shelters in Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur Jajpur, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Khordha, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri and Angul so far.

The maximum number of 74,132 people have been shifted in Balasore district, followed by 73,103 from Bhadrak and 41.685 from Kendrapara, the SRC data revealed.

Similarly, 9122 people have been evacuated in Jagatsinghpur, 3500 in Puri, 3382 in Mayurbhanj, 3059 in Jajpur, 1915 in Cuttack, 420 in Dhenkanal and 303 in Koenjhar.
Meanwhile, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has also started shifting of people living in kutcha houses in low-lying areas to cyclone shelters . Dwellers from 30 slums in the city have been shifted to various schools, colleges and stadiums.
Basic facilities like food, drinking water, electricity and toilets have been provided to the evacuated population.
In order to avoid waterlogging, arrangements have been made at 195 places for pumping out of water, said a CMC employee.
Moreover, people have been advised not to venture out of their houses during the cyclone.
