Several parts of Odisha on Sunday experienced heavy rainfall under the influence of the low pressure area over Northwest and adjoining West central Bay of Bengal which became well marked, said India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Moderate rain and thundershowers with one or two very intense spells of rain affected normal life in different parts of the State including the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar in the afternoon.
According to IMD, the low pressure system is very likely to move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of north Odisha-West Bengal coasts during next 12 hours. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during the subsequent 2-3 days.

The IMD has "issued ‘Red warning’ (Take action) for heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy (>20cm) falls at one or two places very likely to occur over the districts of Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh. The warning will remain valid till 0830 hours on Monday (September 13)".
Similarly, the IMD has also issued ‘Orange warning’ (Be prepared) for the districts of Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Jajpur and Bhadrak which will also experience heavy to every heavy rainfall during the same period.
Yellow Warning (Be updated): Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore.
Red Warning; Impact & action suggested:
i) Flash flood/Water logging and inundation in low lying areas
ii) Possibility of some damage to informal/Kutcha road, wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses.
iii) Water logging in underpass road and occasional reduction of visibility causing traffic congestion in urban areas. iii) Keep arrangement for drainage of excess water.
iv) Avoid movement in affected areas.
