A low-pressure area has been formed over the East-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea in the early morning of Monday, under the influence of yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central and southeast Bay of Bengal, informed the Regional Met department in Bhubaneswar.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression by 22nd October morning and into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October over the Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, the Met department said.
Thereafter, it is very likely to move northwestwards and reach northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts by 24th October morning, bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds in both the states.

Under its influence, the sea conditions will remains rough. The wind speed along the Odisha coast may reach 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph from October 23 evening and will reach a speed of 100-120 kmph by October 24 night.
Cyclone Threat to Odisha
On the other hand, Odisha will experience rainfall activities in the coastal region from October 23 with one or two places likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. The rainfall activity will be maximum on October 24 and 25 throughout the State.
Several places may record heavy to very heavy rainfall (20cm), while some places may witness extremely heavy rainfall (20 cm to 30 cm). The most important day is October 24 and 25 when the wind speed and rainfall will be the maximum.
Amidst the cyclone threat, the Odisha government, aiming at zero casualty, has cancelled leaves of all staff who have been directed to remain at their respective places and perform their duties. The district collectors have been directed to be on alert mode 24*7.
