Not long after shockwaves rippled through the nation following the suicide of Bengaluru AI engineer Atul Subhash, a similar incident from Mumbai, involving an alleged suicide due to marriage-related harassment is in the spotlight.
The case involves a 26-year-old salesman from Dombivli of Mumbai, Ronak Nagda, who reportedly committed suicide on November 28. In a video recorded before his death, he blamed his in-laws for mental and physical harassment, something that eventually forced him to take his own life.
Amit Deshpande, the founder of Vaastav Foundation, highlighted the ordeal of Nagda’s family and his tragic story on X (formerly Twitter). He shared hand-written notes and evidence, shared by the deceased’s mother, that showed his in-laws extorting money from him even before marriage.
Nagda had apparently documented the amounts given and the threats made by his father-in-law, Vipul Furia in a notebook. The text also detailed that in April 2024, he was beaten and injured by his in-laws when he tried to meet his wife and daughter.

Meanwhile, his family alleged that despite his notes and video statements, police have not arrested anyone and that the case has been diluted in the FIR and post-mortem report.
Tragically, the alleged suicide happened weeks before but it is now that the matter is gaining traction with protests and demands for justice, following the Atul Subhash incident.
