A shocking incident unfolded when an eight-year-old girl from Thane, Maharashtra, was awarded Rs 32.41 lakh as compensation by the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) after she filed a petition against her father, who was responsible for a car accident that killed her mother in December 2021. Notably, she filed the petition through her grandmother as her legal guardian.

More About The Unfortunate Incident
Reportedly, the accident occurred when the family was travelling from Nanded to Umarkhed. According to the media reports, the girl's father was driving the car when the unfortunate incident occurred. The car rammed into the road divider which resulted in fatal injuries to her 38-year-old mother, who was a nursing college instructor.
Tribunal Awards Rs 32.41 Lakh To Minor Girl
During the hearing, the tribunal found the man negligent and held him liable for the accident. Reports suggest that the compensation was calculated at Rs 64.82 lakh. The tribunal took the deceased's monthly income, future prospects, loss of dependency and funeral expenses into account.
As the girl's father was at fault, the tribunal awarded 50 per cent of the total amount to her. The minor girl was awarded Rs 32.41 lakh with 8 per cent annual interest from the date of petition filing until realisation.

Even though the insurance company contested the claim, arguing that the accident was caused by an unknown vehicle and the girl's father had no valid driving license, the tribunal rejected the arguments. The tribunal noted that the insurance policy was valid and comprehensive at the time when the tragic mishap occurred.
