The all-important World Test Championship (WTC) Final will be played a week after the Indian Premier League (IPL). With many important and utility Team India players reeling with injury concerns, former India all-rounder and head coach Ravi Shastri has a word of advice for BCCI.
Shastri has urged BCCI to talk to the IPL franchises to allow Team India players a much-needed break to keep them ready for huge tournaments like WTC final and World Cup.
“Even during the IPL, BCCI has to tell the franchises that for India’s sake, they should rest some players and manage their work load properly. If they don’t play those games it will be good for India in some upcoming important tournaments,” said Shastri during an interview on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket (LLC) in Doha.
Some important players like Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pan and Shreyas Iyer are currently undergoing rehabilitation due to injury worries. With India all set to lock horns with formidable Australia in the WTC final just a week after IPL, the challenge for BCCI is to send a fit Indian team to England. Moreover, the ODI World Cup too is just seven months away.
“The amount of cricket has certainly increased in recent times. Rest period for the players is getting decreased. The establishment and the players need to be told that much needed rest is required for the players to have their best and quality performances,” Shastri said.
