Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq, who triggered a controversy by passing disrespectful comments on former Miss Universe and actress Aishwarya Rai, has finally issued an apology to the ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ actress.
Criticising the performance of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s men in the World Cup 2023, Razzaq had given a bad comment comparing their performance to Aishwarya Rai. Seeing social media trend against him, he issued an apology saying his comment was a ‘slip of tongue’.
The former cricketer appeared on a Pakistani TV Channel along with other veteran players like Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul when he said, “While I was playing, I was aware of my captain Younis Khan’s good intentions. That gave me strength and confidence and with Allah’s help, I was able to perform well. But, the PCB’s ‘neeyat’ is not good. So, you must first amend your intentions. How can I wish for a good-nature and moral child after marrying a woman like Aishwarya Rai.”
After strong resists and protests on social media, Razzaq once again appeared online and apologized for his comments comparing Aishwarya Rai with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“Yesterday, we were talking about cricket coaching and intentions. I had a slip of tongue and mistakenly took Aishwarya Rai’s name. I apologise to her personally. I did not intend to hurt her. I was supposed to say something else, but I happened to take Aishwarya’s name,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Indians have brutally trolled both Razzaq and Shahid Afridi who was also present on the stage and was seen laughing after the former’s comments. Some netizens also suspected any secret motive behind the statement of Razzaq.
"Does Razzaq want media attention by taking name of Aish? Or, he wants to become the next PCC chairman? He must have something cooking in his mind," suspect a cricket fan.
"The more you tell bad things about India and Indian celebs, the more favourite man you become in the eyes of radicals pakistanis. I have heard about Razzaq wanting to become the pcc chief. Can such comments help him... shame," commented a netizen.
