Delhi Capitals flamboyant opener Prithvi Shaw has disappointed his team with his poor form in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. Shaw has failed miserably with scores of 12, 7, 0, 15, and 0 in his first five games. It is one of the main reasons why Delhi have lost five of their games on the trot. They have failed to open their account and are now languishing at the bottom of the points table.
Head coach Ricky Ponting and Team Director Sourav Ganguly had backed Shaw before the start of the mega event. Despite his repeated failures, Shaw still seems to have got the backing of the team management.
Shaw was run out for a duck in the second delivery against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. However, DC assistant coach Shane Watson has rushed to the struggling opener’s defence.
Responding to Shaw’s dismal form, Watson said, “Prithvi came off after sitting for 20 overs until the impact player rules came in. Otherwise, he would be out there running around ready to take off and run that a little bit faster.”
“Prithvi is as skilled as any other batter in India. And everyone has seen that from the time he made his Test debut. The biggest thing for him is just to be able to allow himself to access the skills with no fear of making a mistake or getting out. He can take down the best bowlers in the world and in all conditions. A player like Prithvi does not just fall out of a tree,” the former Australia all-rounder added.
