Mumbai Indians (MI) captain and all-rounder Hardik Pandya has put himself in trouble after losing his cool and shouting at umpires during a match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL 2024. If reports are to be believed, BCCI is most likely to take strict action against the MI skipper.
Recently, India’s run machine Virat Kohli was fined 50% of his match fees after he was caught arguing with officials and umpires after his dismissal against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It seems like Pandya is also following the footsteps of King Kohli.
Irritated with batters taking longer than usual before facing a delivery, Pandya lost his cool and started shouting at the umpires from the long-on area. The MI captain, who is under the scanner for his below-par performances in the ongoing IPL, seemed miffed.
Even after shouting from the long-on area, he went up to the umpire and started arguing with him. The umpire told Pandya he knew what was happening and even pointed towards his match. However, the MI skipper was unsatisfied with his reply and continued to be angry and abusive as he walked back to his fielding position.
Pandya has already been fined Rs 12L for a slow over-rate offence. This will be the second penalty and would put him on the verge of suspension. The captain’s third slow over-rate offence comes with a one-match ban.
After replacing Hitman Rohit Sharma as the captain of Mumbai Indians, Pandya has failed to showcase his batting prowess. He has not been able to perform well throughout the tournament with MI losing 5 matches. Not just his batting, his bowling is also lacking firepower.
Meanwhile, speculations are rife that he will not be picked up for the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
