A number of congress workers were detained on Sunday for protesting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Ganjam.
The party activists staged a road blockade at RMC square in Hinjili and showed black flags as a mark of protest to the CM’s visit demanding the ouster of Home Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged involvement in lady teacher Mamita Meher’s murder in Kalahandi.
However, police dispersed the activists before CM’s arrival and detained few of them.
Later, Patnaik paid a visit to the district and distributed Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) smart cards. The CM also laid the foundation stones of various projects in the district. Then he visited Maa Tara Tarini Pitha and got darshan of the Goddess. He also took stock of the construction work undergoing in the temple premises.
It was followed by Patnaik’s visit to Hinjili and he provided a monetary assistance of Rs 100 crore to the women SHG groups in the constituency. In a bid to develop tourism in the district, Patnaik kick-started ‘Mo Bus Ganjam Darshan’ scheme. The CM also visited the smart schools and smart libraries in the district and interacted with the students of a smart school in Hinjili.
Notably, Patnaik visited his constituency for the first time after 2019 general election. The State government has earmarked Rs 651 crore for as many as 651 projects in different sectors like road, drainage, education and health.
“We have started distributing Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana smart cards in Ganjam. Work is underway for the development of Maa Tara Tarini pitha and the target has been set to finish the work by January 2023,” said Patnaik.
