In a deeply disturbing incident, a young man allegedly slit the throat of a minor girl on Friday in Mayabarha village under Bolangir Sadar police limits and then consumed poison in an apparent suicide attempt.

The girl was reportedly attacked in the village before the youth fled the scene. Shortly after, he was found having ingested poison and was rushed to Patnagarh hospital in critical condition.
The minor girl, who was also critically injured, has been shifted to Burla VIMSAR hospital in Sambalpur district for advanced treatment.
Initial reports suggest the incident may have stemmed from a romantic relationship gone wrong. Local police have launched an investigation to ascertain the full details and motives behind the shocking act.
Locals remain in deep shock as the small village grapples with the brutal turn of events. Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of those involved, but both are said to be residents of the same locality.
“I do not know anything, as I was sleeping inside the house after having my lunch. The girl was also taking a rest there. He (the accused) asked for water, and when she was about to bring water for him, he slit her throat and fled from the spot,” the girl’s father said.
“After hearing her scream, I woke up and saw profuse blood oozing out from her neck. I shouted, ‘Catch! … catch! My family has been devastated! Someone has killed’. Then the youth ran away from my house,” the girl’s father stated.
“Unfortunately, nobody was present around,” the girl’s father expressed.
