A 17-year-old college student was caught while impersonating a doctor on Tuesday at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Puri town.

For several days, the youth roamed the male ward adorning a medical apron and armed with a stethoscope, allegedly examining patients without prescribing any medications. His youthful demeanour eventually aroused the curiosity of the nursing staff.

Upon close inspection and subsequent enquiry, the nursing staff ascertained that the youth is a student in a local college. When inquired about his unusual conduct, the student expressed a desire to experience the life of a doctor.

Following the alertness of the nursing team, personnel at the hospital police outpost took charge of the situation. They are currently liaising with his family, and he has been referred to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for appropriate counselling.

“I am not working in the hospital, rather came to gain experience. However, I did not write any prescription and administer medicine to anyone,” the youth expressed.

Notably, the identity of the youth was not disclosed as he is a minor boy.
