According to sources, the woman previously had altercations with her neighbour over a common and temporary fence erected to separate the two houses. They had disputes relating to the position of the fence that lead to the alleged murder.
On being informed, a team of officers from the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI) police station have reached the spot and begun a probe at the crime site. They suspect the involvement of a neighbour, who is believed to have fled after committing the crime.
“There is no specific and imperative reason behind the alleged killing. The woman and her neighbour were often indulging in altercations over a fence. The enmity had persisted for the past several months,” Zone-I ACP Arun Kumar Swain said to OTV.
“The two had a verbal duel in the morning. In a fit of rage, the accused attacked the woman with a Paniki (a tool with cutting edge and wooden footrest). The woman was alone at home and her husband had gone to outside, when the incident occurred. He came home after hearing about the fatal incident,” the Zone-I ACP expressed.
“The accused is absconding. We had taken the victim woman to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH), where she was received ‘dead’,” the senior cop stated.

“Mother of the accused sustained grievous injuries in the deadly attack, when the elderly woman came out of her house and was trying to save victim Priyatama after hearing her scream for help,” ACP Swain further said.
Further details are awaited as the police continue their inquiries.
