Unsafe Bhubaneswar! BMC worker assaulted with liquor bottle, critically injured

Chakradhar Jena, a BMC worker, was assaulted with liquor bottles by some miscreants while repairing street lights in VSS Nagar, Bhubaneswar on Sunday. Sahid Nagar Police detained a suspect after the incident. Police have initiated probe into the incident, which is underway.

A municipal worker sustained grievous injuries after he was assaulted with a liquor bottle while repairing street lights in VSS Nagar locality of Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Allegedly, the worker sustained injuries to his head in the attack, and was also abused, kicked and assaulted.

Sahid Nagar police has detained an individual in connection with the incident and initiated a thorough probe. The victim has been identified as Chakradhar Jena.

What led to the untoward situation?

According to sources, Chakradhar is engaged with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). As usual, he had gone for work and was repairing street lights when a few miscreants in allegedly inebriated conditions started abusing him outside a bar.

Things turned violent after the miscreants attacked him with a beer bottle when Jena objected to their behavior. Situation escalated after they injured his head with the beer bottle and inflicted other injuries.

As Jena attempted to leave the spot, the group chased him and further assaulted him, leading to his collapse. Officers from Sahid Nagar Police Station arrived promptly at the scene, providing assistance by taking Jena to a nearby hospital.

On being informed by some locals, a police team reached the spot and rescued Chakradhar.

No comments were received from either the Sahid Nagar police or the BMC authorities including the victim Chakradhar in this regard.
