As lakhs of devotees are expected to gather in Puri for the upcoming Rath Yatra , security agencies have intensified preparations following nationwide high alert after the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu & Kashmir.

Intelligence inputs have suggested that Puri and the Jagannath Temple could be on the radar of terrorist groups, prompting robust counter-terrorism measures across the city.

In response to the potential threat, a comprehensive anti-terror mock drill was conducted at Puri Railway Station involving multiple security agencies on Friday.

A Coordinated Exercise of Forces:

The coordinated exercise saw the participation of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), Odisha Police, Central Armed Forces, and the Fire Services Department.

The mock drill simulated a bomb blast scenario and a hijacking attempt inside a train coach at the station. Security personnel successfully neutralized the “threat” and carried out the rescue of passengers, showcasing preparedness to tackle real-life emergencies.

The objective was to test the readiness, coordination, and response time of various forces in case of a terror attack.

Proactive Drills for Public Safety

Officials emphasized that crowded religious sites like Puri remain vulnerable during large-scale festivals, making such proactive drills essential for public safety. Special surveillance, bomb detection squads, and quick response teams have been deployed in and around the temple town.

Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) and senior officials are closely monitoring the situation. SP confirmed that multi-layered security measures are being put in place, including drone surveillance, increased patrolling and intensified baggage checks.

As the holy Rath Yatra nears, Odisha Police has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. With the state's most iconic festival approaching, the government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety and security of devotees and residents alike.
