Tension flared in Danogahiri Nuasahi under Pipili police limits in Puri after a group clash broke out on Monday night, leaving four youths critically injured. The incident triggered unrest in the area, with members of two rival groups confronting each other over an alleged mob attack.
According to sources, a youth of Siapur area had gone to Sultan Nagar to collect money. However, he was detained by a group and thrashed before being put under house arrest.
On being informed about the incident, a group from Siapur went to Sultan Nagar, and the situation escalated quickly, leading to a violent confrontation between the two sides. Later, police reached the spot and rescued them.
In the attack, four youths sustained serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is stated to be critical but stable. Meanwhile, police have detained two persons in connection with the case.
Following the incident, a large number of locals gathered outside Pipili police station late Monday night, demanding strict action against the attackers. The protesting youths alleged that the accused were moving freely and urged police to arrest them immediately.
In view of the prevailing tension, one platoon of police force has been deployed in the area. Pipili Police Station IIC Soumendu Sekhar Tripathy and SDPO Debashis Mishra rushed to the spot and monitored the situation. The police said an FIR has been lodged and an investigation is underway.
