Student in Bhubaneswar 'ends life' over suspected substance abuse

A third-year Computer Science student of a private engineering college in Bhubaneswar allegedly ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Satya Swarup Panda who was residing in a mess at Niladri Vihar Sector-5 in the Smart City.

His body was found hanging in his room.

As per reports, Panda was a drug addict and used to abuse substances regularly. His family suspects that he might have hanged himself in intoxication.

Chandrasekharpur Police reached the spot following a phone call about the incident and launched a probe in this connection.

A scientific team is also conducting an investigation to ascertain the circumstances in which he ended his life.

Recently, an ITI student’s body was found hanging inside the hostel of an educational institute under Mancheswar Police limits in Bhubaneswar.

The family members of the deceased student alleged that the student ended his life after he was beaten up by a lecturer.
