In a strong message against noise pollution, Bhadrak Police has launched stern action on bikes with modified silencers (exhaust pipes), official sources said on Tuesday.
Over 250 such altered silencers were seized and crushed under road rollers, with heavy fines imposed on violators to deter future offenses.

According to official sources, the echoing roar of illegally modified motorcycles was heard all over Bhadrak town—until the police stepped in. Taking swift action, police cracked down on bikes fitted with customised silencers that had been creating loud, disruptive noise.
In a special month-long operation, the police seized more than 250 modified silencers that were contributing to public nuisance across the town. These high-decibel bikes had become a major disturbance, especially during late hours and in residential zones.
After confiscating the modified silencers, police took a bold step—placing them all under a road roller to be publicly destroyed. This ‘dramatic’ act was meant to set an example and send a clear message to the violators of the rules.
Apart from the motor parts seizure, fines of Rs 10,000 were levied on each offender caught with a modified silencer. Authorities stated that such enforcement drives will continue in the future to maintain peace and order on the roads.
The initiative has been praised by residents who had long been troubled by the deafening noise of these illegally altered bikes. Police officials urged all vehicle owners to abide by the rules and avoid any modification that violates motor vehicle norms or disturbs public life.
“Acting on the directive of SP (Superintendent of Police), we carried out an extensive drive to take action against those who had been using the modified silencers and creating sound pollution. We have seized over 250 altered silencers,” Town Police Station IIC stated.
“The seized silencers are being destroyed today. However, the drive will be intensified in the days ahead. We will also take action against those who are using mobile phones while driving. Each violator has been penalised Rs 10,000,” the cop expressed.
