Odisha government aims to construct nearly 6,500 kilometres of roads in the State during the upcoming financial year, kicking off a comprehensive plan to build a total of around 15,000 kilometres within three years, Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said on Monday.

This ambitious infrastructure development initiative promises an investment of more than Rs 2 lakh crore. Following a strategic review meeting held in Bhubaneswar with top officials of the Department, the Minister announced these targets.
More proposals in the pipeline
Harichandan also disclosed that a bill related to the establishment of Odisha state highway authority will be presented to the Legislative Assembly within the next 2-3 days.
“We have set a target to complete a road network of around 15,000 kilometres in the next three years. More than Rs 2 lakh crore will be spent on the work. ‘Odisha state highways authority bill-2025’ will also be tabled in the House very soon,” the Minister said.
Worth mentioning, the Government also has plans to construct a world-class road network in the State in five years. Accordingly, a total of 15,000 kilometres of 'state-of-the-art' roads are to be constructed, official sources had said earlier.
Besides, the Works Department has planned to construct different types of roads including State Highways (SHs) – 4,112 Km, Major District Roads (MDR) – 2,632 Km, and Other District Roads (ODR) – 22,866 Km, totalling – 29,610 Km.

In addition, the Department has chalked out the details for the construction and maintenance of 5,753 Km. of National Highways (NHs), the official sources added.
