In a significant development in the high-profile murder case of former Odisha minister Naba Das, the Crime Branch has started re-investigation by recording the statements of family members. A two-member team from the Crime Branch reached Naba Das’ residence in Sarbahal in Jharsuguda district on Tuesday to carry out the proceedings.
The Crime Branch team is recording the statements of late minister Naba Das’ son Vishal Das, daughter Dipali Das, and wife Minati Das. The authorities had earlier issued a notice to the family members for a fresh round of recording statements.
The investigation team has been actively revisiting statements as part of their renewed probe, which was reignited following the family's demand for a CBI investigation. The re-examination of testimonies is aimed at further clarifying details and strengthening the case.

The murder of Naba Das sparked widespread controversy, and the family has consistently pressed for a thorough inquiry. Today’s interrogation marks another crucial step in the investigation as law enforcement officials strive to uncover more evidence related to the case.
What Odisha Law Minister Said….
Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Tuesday said, “We had earlier told the family of late Minister Naba Das to request CM for reopening the case. It was seen that the investigation of such a sensitive case in which a minister was killed, was taken off course during the past government and several aspects were kept closed. Keeping these factors in mind, the links in the case will be opened. The family members of the late minister have given time for recording their statements.”
Investigation will be carried out again and the people of the state should be assured that the entire investigation will be done in a transparent manner, the Law Minister assured.
“As a Minister of the state was brutally killed, who was behind the incident, and the people of the state need to know all such aspects. The investigating team will decide on how to proceed with the probe,” he added.
On the CBI probe, the Odisha Law Minister further said that we have faith in the Crime Branch which is capable of solving the mystery in the case.
BJD Responds….
BJD MLA Gautam Buddha Das said, “It was a sensitive case and the previous government had assigned the responsibility of the probe to the Crime Branch. The Opposition was then claiming that the investigation was not going on the right track. Now they (BJP) have been in power for the last nine months and they can go for a Crime Branch or CBI probe. Now we are hearing that the Law Minister said that again Crime Branch will reinvestigate the case.
“BJD had earlier told that the investigation was done and the accused was arrested. Now the government is stepping back and it shows that whatever investigation was done was on the right track. The family was told to give in writing for a CBI probe. All such claims of the government show that it was only to mislead and a political gimmick which BJD condemns,” the BJD MLA added.
