Pathetic law and order: 2 held for rape and murder of 10-year-old girl in Odisha

The Nabarangpur Police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the brutal rape and murder of a 10-year-old girl in the Tentulikhunti area and arrested two prime accused in the heinous case. The accused duo has been identified as Alekh Majhi and Paramanand Disari, both hailing from the same village.

The police said that the accused confessed to killing the girl out of fear of being exposed.

Speaking to media persons, Charan Singh Meena, DIG (South Western Range) said, “On the 17th of September, a sensitive incident was reported from a village under Tentulikhunti police limits. A 10-year-old minor girl’s mutilated body was recovered from a bush near the village school under mysterious circumstances. A case was registered and a probe began under the supervision of a DSP-rank officer, Nabarangpur SDPO.” 

“After investigation, two youths Alekh Majhi and Paramanand Disari aged 20 and 24, were detained on charges of sexual assault and murder of the minor girl. We have enough evidence against the two and they have been arrested today. Strict action will be taken against the two accused to provide justice to the victim and her family,” he added.

“We will also ensure necessary compensation for the kin of the victim’s family. 

Worth mentioning, the girl’s body was found with deep injuries near a bush behind a school in the village. Her mouth was found stuffed with a towel while her dress was found some meters away from the body.

The rising cases of crimes against women, rape, murder, and the increasing chain of snatching and looting have become a matter of serious law and order concern in the state. 

Meanwhile, a young girl was reportedly gang-raped by three men including her ‘boyfriend’ in Odisha when she had been to witness the ‘Karam Festival’ in the Kutra area of Rajgangpur in tribal-dominated Sundargarh district.

The victim had gone to witness the ‘Karam Festival’ when the three accused including her ‘boyfriend’ waylaid her and took her to a secluded place where they took turns on her.
