Despite numerous cases of love, betrayal, and deceit coming to light, such incidents show no sign of decline in Odisha.
According to sources, a young woman from Salimagochha village under Badagada Police Limits in Ganjam district approached the Kandhamal SP seeking action against her former live-in partner.
Live-in relationship for around 3 years
The victim had been in a three-year live-in relationship with Anik Singh from a village under the Brahmani Gaon police limits of Kandhamal district. Their relationship began while both were working at an English-medium school in Madhya Pradesh.
Though Anik allegedly promised marriage, he later refused to accept the woman as his wife. Worse still, the woman claims she is now receiving threats to her life.
The victim initially approached the Brahmani Gaon police several times, but due to their alleged inaction, she was compelled to reach out directly to the SP.
The woman accused Anik Singh of emotional and psychological abuse, alleging that despite cohabiting as a couple for years, he is now attempting to sever ties without accountability. She says the betrayal has not only left her emotionally shattered but also in constant fear for her safety.
Efforts to obtain comments from the accused and police officials were unsuccessful.
“I had lodged an FIR against Anik Singh a week ago, but no step seems to have been taken since then. The guy (accused) is now moving scot-free. He had stayed with me in a live-in relationship for three years. He had promised to marry me,” the victim woman said.
“After hearing something from his family, he is refusing to marry. He is even threatening me with dire consequences. I was working as a teacher in an English-medium school in Madhya Pradesh when we came to know each other,” the woman said.
