An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police lost his life in a hit-and-run incident near Kanti Chhak in Kamakhyanagar of Dhenkanal district, late on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Bishnu Charan Singh.
According to reports, Singh was on duty when he was struck by a speeding, unidentified vehicle. The impact was severe, and Singh succumbed to his injuries on the spot before any medical assistance could reach him.
Immediate Response and Case Registration
Reports stated that police teams from Kamakhyanagar rushed to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Officers cordoned off the accident site, gathered preliminary evidence, and initiated steps to identify the vehicle involved.
A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS, and a manhunt is underway to trace the driver responsible.

CCTV Footage Being Examined
Reports cited police officials who confirmed that surveillance cameras installed along the stretch near Kanti Chhak and adjoining areas are being scanned for leads.
The footage is expected to provide crucial clues about the vehicle’s make, registration number, and direction of escape. Eyewitness accounts are also being collected to aid the investigation.
The search for the vehicle involved has been extended beyond Dhenkanal district, with adjoining police stations alerted about the incident, and a technical team has been deployed to analyse digital evidence.
Police sources indicated that further updates on the driver’s identity may be available once the footage and witness statements are corroborated. However, as of the last reports, the accused is yet to be tracked down.
