In an incident that has sent ripples through the town of Dhenkanal, a young man was brutally murdered late Sunday night in the Karigar Sahi area under chilling circumstances. The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Behera, also known as Tittan, a local youth.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 11 pm when Tittan was returning home on his motorcycle. He was suddenly ambushed by unidentified miscreants who opened fire on him. 
A bullet struck his leg, causing him to fall off his vehicle. Hearing the sound of gunfire, his wife rushed out of the house, only to find him wounded and attempting to flee.

Reports of extreme brutality

Reports then mentioned extreme brutality with the attackers dragging the injured to a nearby location and reportedly bludgeoning him to death using stones before fleeing the scene. The violent nature of the crime has left locals stunned.

Preliminary investigations suggest the murder may have stemmed from an old rivalry. Tittan’s wife has alleged that about a month ago, the same group of individuals had attacked her husband and fractured his arm, indicating a pattern of targeted violence.

Response from police

Dhenkanal SDPO Ramesh Chandra Dora, speaking to the media, confirmed the sequence of events and assured that a thorough investigation is underway.

“We are currently investigating the matter and are speaking to the wife and relatives of the deceased. Additional details will be revealed as the probe progresses,” the SDPO said.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case and are scanning CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the culprits. The incident has raised serious concerns over law and order in the area, with residents demanding swift justice for the victim.
