Prevailing heat conditions have intensified over most parts of the state with the maximum temperature surpassing 37 degrees Celsius by 11:30 am today. The startling rise in mercury levels comes amid a forecast released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) stating that maximum daytime temperatures are very likely to increase gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next five days.

At about 11:30 am this morning, Jharsuguda recorded its highest temperature of 37.2 degrees Celsius, marking a significant rise compared to 33.6 degrees Celsius at the same time yesterday, an increase of 3.6 degrees Celsius in just one day.

Odisha weather in the past 24 hours:

Meanwhile, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 35.4 and 35 degrees Celsius maximum daytime temperatures, respectively, even though the minimum temperature hovered around 18 degrees Celsius in both places.

The large day-night temperature differences also come at a time when the IMD has warned of the onset of a heatwave and has released yellow and orange warnings accordingly.
