A long-standing neighbourhood dispute in the Bidanasi Nuasahi area of Cuttack City turned violent on Sunday morning after a man allegedly attacked his neighbour and the neighbour’s wife with a knife, leaving both critically injured. The injured have been identified as Sukadev Dalei and his wife, Sujata Bhatt.
According to reports, Sukadev hails from Badamba area but resided in Bidanasi Nuasahi. He had reportedly engaged in heated exchanges with his neighbour for quite some time before the matter escalated on Sunday. Following the assault, both husband and wife were rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital with serious stab wounds.
Argument Turns Violent
According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred around 8 am when Sukadev and his neighbour, Gobinda Malik, got into a heated verbal exchange, reportedly over a previous enmity.
Eyewitnesses said that during the quarrel, Gobinda suddenly attacked Sukadev with a knife in full view of his wife. When Sujata tried to intervene, the accused allegedly turned the weapon on her as well.
Police Assures Action
Bidanasi police personnel reached the scene after getting information about the attack. The injured were rescued and sent to SCB Medical in an ambulance. The accused, Gobinda Malik, was detained at the spot.
Authorities confirmed that the reason behind the attack was likely previous enmity, but stated that they would explore all possible angles before reaching a conclusion.
Meanwhile, hospital sources confirmed that both victims sustained deep injuries and are under intensive care. Doctors have termed their condition critical and have stated that the duo required emergency surgery.
Following the violence, tension prevailed in Bidanasi, with many expressing shock over the attack, saying the dispute between the two families had been simmering for some time but had never turned violent before.
