A meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) was convened in the conference hall of Kendrapara Zilla Parishad on Saturday. The session was chaired by BJP National Vice President and Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, with active participation from senior officials and public representatives.
As per reports, the meeting focused on a comprehensive review of various central government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), afforestation initiatives, and drinking water supply projects. Special emphasis was laid on the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at resolving water scarcity and improving rural water infrastructure.
Emphasis on development
Discussions were also held on progress in sectors such as education, agriculture, industry, employment, information technology, water resources, and rural development. The district administration, led by the Collector and department heads, presented updates on developmental projects and implementation challenges.
The meeting was attended by Kendrapara MLA Ganeshwar Behera, Patkura MLA Arvind Mahapatra, Mahakalpada MLA Durga Prasanna Nayak, the Vice Chairperson of the Zilla Parishad, other public representatives, and senior officials from various departments.
MP Baijayant Panda stressed the need for the timely implementation and effective monitoring of central schemes to ensure inclusive development across the district.
"Discussions were held on how to complete the pending works. There has not been remarkable progress on Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana and officials have been warned in this regard. However, there has been a good response to the scheme in urban areas," said Mahakalpada MLA Durga Prasanna Nayak.
"Mainly two things- Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana and MGNREGS were discussed in the meeting. We have performed miserably in MGNREGS. Our MP, Baijayant Panda, and all of us expressed concerns in this regard. Our Collector was given the responsibility to accelerate the progress," said Kendrapara MLA Ganeshwar Behera.
"It was the third meeting of our District Development Monitoring Committee. Our MP is the chairman of the committee. Discussions were held about the development of schools and the supply of drinking water. Discussions were also held about the effective implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on how it will fully cover Kendrapara district," said DISHA member Jyotshnarani Jena.
