In a shocking incident, a minor girl was allegedly poisoned to death by her lover at Banjhipali village under Agalpur Police Station in Bolangir on Wednesday.
The accused has been identified as Pranay Pradhan who is a resident of Insa village.
As per reports, the victim was forcefully fed poison at her home by Pradhan in the presence of her mother. The accused fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
Following the development, the family members rushed the victim to Loisingha hospital in critical condition. Later, she was shifted to Bolangir District Headquarters Hospital as her condition deteriorated. However, she passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Family members of the deceased lodged a complaint in connection with the incident at Agalpur Police Station.
Subsequently, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
“I saw Pradhan feeding poison to my daughter at our house forcefully. The incident occurred at around 10 am. When the accused saw me, he tried to hide under the bed. However, I found him and gave him a slap. He managed to escape from the spot despite my intervention. Stern punishment should be given to the accused,” said the victim’s mother.
“The accused is from Insa village. I don’t know why he fed poison to my sister. Stern action should be taken against him after the investigation,” said the victim’s brother.
