A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped within the Jujumura police station limits of Sambalpur on Sunday evening. Police have detained three persons for interrogation, while two others allegedly involved in the crime remain at large.
According to the complaint lodged at Jujumura police station, the minor had stepped out of her home for some personal work when five youths allegedly intercepted her. The accused are said to have dragged her to a secluded spot and outraged her modesty.
The girl narrated the ordeal to her family, following which an FIR was lodged late in the night. Police swung into action immediately and launched a manhunt to trace the accused.
Detentions and Probe
By Monday morning, three suspects were rounded up and taken into custody for questioning. Police sources said their involvement is being verified, and efforts are underway to apprehend the two others who are on the run.
While police are yet to comment on the matter, they have stated that the investigation is at an early stage but is proceeding with extreme urgency. Authorities have stated that they are interrogating the detained individuals and gathering evidence to ascertain the sequence of events.

Statewide Crimes Spark Concerns
The incident has triggered concerns regarding minors being targeted across the state. Coinciding with this case, a minor girl was allegedly sexually assaulted in Cuttack City inside an auto-rickshaw by the driver of the vehicle.
The case surfaced after the victim narrated the ordeal to her family on Saturday. According to the complaint, she was inappropriately touched and then threatened with immolation if she spoke about the matter.
