A substantial fire erupted near Zero Point, at a private company’s stockyard in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district, on Monday.

The flames have engulfed a large number of plastic-coated iron pipes, causing them to burn intensely. Fire services teams arrived and were striving to contain the blaze.
Reports indicate that these pipes were intended for transporting liquid petroleum products underground. The exact cause of the inferno remained unknown at this time. However, a probe is underway to determine the origin of the incident.
The fire occurred around an hour ago and engulfed the nearby areas soon. Effort to douse the flames was underway at the time this report was filed.
10 fire tenders pressed into service
“More than 10 firefighting vehicles have been pressed into service. The situation is under control now. The District Collector, SP, and IIC of the local PS are guiding the firefighting team. The fire will be completely doused within an hour, maximum,” the Paradip Sub-Collector said.
“After containing the fire, we will probe to ascertain the cause of it,” the official added.
No comments were received from the company authorities.
Earlier in another incident, Cuttack City witnessed a major fire at a suitcase showroom and garments godown in the bustling Dolamundai locality, on April 1. Thick black smoke was seen billowing out of the showroom, causing panic among locals and passersby.

As per eye-witnesses, the fire had erupted as soon as the shop opened at around 11.00 AM. The incident occurred when a staff turned on the air-conditioner after opening the shop. It was suspected that a fault in the electric wiring had caused short circuit.
