A man accused of questionable conduct with a minor girl faced public disgrace following a 'kangaroo court justice' after his face was blackened, and he was tied to a pole and paraded through Akula village to the beat of drums on Wednesday, under Telkoi Police limits in Keonjhar district.

According to sources, the man identified as Prasanta reported the incident to the local police, terming it an unlawful act by a so-called 'kangaroo court', referring to an informal adjudicatory body functioning outside the recognised legal system.

The victim man alleged that this punishment was imposed unjustly by several villagers, despite no formal complaint from the minor's family.

On being informed, Telkoi Police promptly intervened and rescued Prasanta from the spot. While the minor's family did not lodge any complaint, it is reported that some villagers took matters into their own hands, meting out punishment sans judicial authorisation.

Police have launched a probe to examine the sequence of events and are in pursuit of those accountable for this extrajudicial punishment.

Notably, Prasanta lodged a complaint against at least five persons for the act seeking justice.
