A man allegedly killed his father by beating him with a hammer last night in a village under Phiringia police limits of Kandhamal district, police sources said on Friday.

The event, which has shocked the local community, reportedly took place after an argument spiralled out of control. The accused son, named Suraj, is alleged to have been intoxicated at the time of the confrontation, leading to a dispute that ended in violence.
The disagreement began when Suraj, under the influence of alcohol, became disruptive within the household, according to local reports. When his father, described as elderly, attempted to intervene and restore calm, the situation escalated.
Despite the father's efforts to de-escalate the conflict, Suraj purportedly attacked him with a hammer, fatally injuring him. Later, the elderly man succumbed to injuries.
The local police have detained Suraj and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. This tragedy underscores the destructive impact alcohol abuse can have on familial relationships, turning domestic disputes into catastrophic events.

“The elderly man used to advise his son always to be a good human being and lead a noble life. However, the youth in an inebriated condition, could not tolerate the advice. Things turned ugly when, in a fit of rage, the man (Suraj) attacked his elderly father and killed him,” Phulbani SDPO Subhrajit Biswal told mediapersons.
