Major fire breaks out in ladies hostel of Berhampur University

A major fire broke out at a ladies hostel of Berhampur University on Tuesday reducing furniture worth lakhs of rupees to ashes.

According to sources, the fire broke out on the top floor of the hostel and spread to several rooms causing massive destruction.

Several students first spotted smoke billowing from one of the rooms of the hostel and informed the university about the fire.

On being informed about the incident, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flame.

Though the exact reason behind the fire is unknown, it is suspected that a short circuit might have triggered the flames.

Further investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and damage assessment is underway.
