A trial run of double-decker buses in Odisha is currently underway in the state capital and adjoining areas ahead of the state’s upcoming maiden Pravasi Bharatiya Divas scheduled to take place from the 8th to the 10th of January.

On Friday afternoon, two of the total five double-decker buses arrived at Gadakana depot in Bhubaneswar from Mumbai. Equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, these fully air-conditioned ochre-colored buses have the capacity to seat a total of 66 passengers at any given time. 

Moreover, they are also adorned with designs and artworks highlighting the vibrant cultural landscape heritage of Odisha. From prominent landmarks such as the Konark Sun Temple and Wheel, Puri Jagannath Temple, and Dhauli stupa, the buses also feature Odissi dance forms and Odia motifs.

Following their arrival in Bhubaneswar, they set off to play on various stretches of the city along with Khurda and Jatni to ascertain their working conditions.

Meanwhile, Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra stated that the buses will operate under the Mo Bus initiative and will be managed by Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT).

He also laid out plans for the buses to operate as regular Mo Buses in different cities of the state after the conclusion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.

“A total of 5 double-decker buses were set off for Odisha out of which 2 have already arrived and begun trial runs. The state government will check the feasibility of routes on which these buses will be the most suitable to run in tourist sites in cities like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri,” the minister added.
