In a notable turn of events in Odisha's political arena, Jaladhar Sahu, the president of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in Dharmasala constituency in Jajpur district, has tendered his resignation from the party.

Citing health concerns, Sahu has vacated his primary party membership. Sources confirm the resignation letter has been dispatched to the district BJD president.

Sahu, a prominent figure known for his steadfast presence in non-Congress factions since his student years, has held several influential roles throughout his political career. His departure from BJD has sparked conjecture about a potential alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

Despite these rumours, Sahu has made it clear that any decision regarding his political future will be made only after consultations with his supporters.

“Due to health concerns, I have tendered my resignation. My next course of action will be known very soon. I will take my further decision as per the wish of my supporters and admirers,” Sahu stated over the phone.

“I have been in politics since 1988. I have been associated with both BJP and BJD in my initial political career. I have been non-Congress since my student years. So, it is likely that I may join the BJP,” he further added.

A few months back, former Sambalpur MLA Raseswari Panigrahi snapped ties with the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by resigning from the primary membership. Similarly, senior leader and former Bargarh MP Prabhas Singh also resigned from the primary membership of the party ahead of the crucial 2024 elections.

Singh also resigned from the BJD’s district president post as the party didn't give him a ticket for the Bargarh LS seat. He was BJD MP from Bargarh till 2019 from 2014, but did not get a ticket in 2019.
