The Twin City Commissionerate Police, on Tuesday, arrested three men on charges of a deadly assault on a chicken shop owner and his employees at Damana Square in Bhubaneswar.
The accused have been identified as Kunal Raut of Raghunathpur under Nandankanan police station limits, Alok Gouda of Chandrasekharpur, and Akash Behera of Ganjam district. They were arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim’s wife.
According to reports, the trio allegedly stormed the shop, attacked the victims with iron rods, and threatened to kill them if they did not vacate the premises.
Shop Near Mall Targeted
Sources stated that the incident occurred near a major shopping mall, where the accused, who were working for a builder’s company, allegedly sent hired musclemen to execute the assault.
The victims were brutally beaten inside the shop and ordered to vacate immediately. The assailants warned that refusal to do so would cost them their lives.
Victims Rescued by PCR Team
Responding to an alert, a PCR unit quickly reached the spot, rescued the injured owner and staff, and shifted them to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Police soon launched an investigation, registering a case based on the complaint and eyewitness accounts.
During the inquiry, police seized two iron rods used in the attack. Acting on reliable intelligence, officers tracked down and arrested the three accused. During questioning, the men confessed to their roles in the assault. Investigators confirmed that the accused were acting under instructions linked to a dispute over the shop premises.

Accused Have Criminal History
Police sources revealed that two of the accused have prior criminal records. Akash Behera, also known as Kumbhir, was earlier booked in a case at Badagada police station. Similarly, Alok Gouda is named in a case registered at the Chandrasekharpur police station.
Meanwhile, the three men have been forwarded to court while further investigation continues to determine the involvement of others, including individuals from the builder company, alleged to have directed the intimidation.
