OUAT Issues Advisory for Farmers

The Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) has issued an advisory for the farmers to minimise crop loss during the possible cyclone ‘Dana’.

For medium and long duration paddy crops, OUAT has advised the farmers to drain out excess water by providing drainage channel at an interval of every three feet distance if lodged. The lodged plants should be straightened to avoid rotting of emerged panicles.

Besides, the farmers have been advised to spray chlorpyrifos (2 ml per litre water) to avoid cut worms infestation of paddy.

The university also urged the farmers to drain out excess water from farmland for pulses and oil seed crops. Besides, it advised the farmers to pick matured pods as waiting for the total maturity may lead to viviparous germination.

Farmers have also been advised to stop all activities of sowing or plantation of rabi crops and release excess water from vegetable fields to minimise damage.
