In a disturbing incident that has raised serious concerns about urban safety, two miscreants carried out an arson attack near Bhubaneswar Airport, a zone regarded as one of the most secure in the capital city. The criminals allegedly set fire to a roadside shop and a motorcycle parked outside, blatantly challenging the authority of the Commissionerate Police. The incident, which took place late at night, has sent shockwaves through the locality.
The Act Captured on CCTV
The entire sequence was captured on CCTV cameras. The footage reveals two individuals arriving on foot, pouring petrol and igniting the fire before fleeing the scene. The intensity of the blaze reduced the parked motorcycle to ashes and caused substantial damage to the shop.

A Grudge-Driven Crime: Past Connection Revealed
Police investigations have now revealed that the culprits were involved in a previous criminal case in the same area. Three months ago, these same individuals had reportedly terrorised a man with a sword, leading to widespread panic. They were arrested at the time, but released on bail later.
Following their release, it appears the miscreants sought revenge by targeting the same shop where the victim had taken refuge. A salesman from the shop stated, “These criminals had thrashed a man outside, and when he entered our shop for safety, they later returned and torched our place.”
History of Violence and Police Headache
According to police sources, five individuals were arrested in the earlier sword attack incident, which had already placed a considerable burden on local law enforcement. Several of those involved reportedly have a criminal history and are known for violent conduct.
One Suspect in Custody, Hunt for Second Continues
Police have now detained one suspect in connection with the recent arson attack and are interrogating him for leads. Efforts are underway to trace the second accused using additional CCTV footage and local intelligence.
Public Outcry and Questions Over City’s Safety
The audacity of this incident has left Bhubaneswar residents alarmed. If criminals can execute such acts in proximity to a sensitive area like the airport, citizens fear what could happen in less protected parts of the city. Questions are now being raised over the adequacy of current policing strategies and surveillance coverage.
As investigations continue, residents await swift justice and reassurances that their city remains safe from such lawlessness.
