In a rare feat, Odia girl M Dhanishree has become one of the youngest and reportedly the only female saxophone player in the state to have also pursued playing the instrument as a career.
Currently studying in the eighth grade, the young musician has already left her mark by leaving audiences mesmerised and spellbound with her professional performances.
A Love for Saxophones Sparked at Age Two
Speaking to OTV, Dhanishree recalled that her love for saxophones began at the tender age of two. Showing her the way was her father, M Seemadri, a professional saxophone player himself. Handing her daughter a saxophone at a young age, Seemadri encouraged her to study the instrument, practice, and experiment with it, eventually turning her curiosity into an artistic passion.
Rath Yatra and the Saxophone Connection
“I was about two years old and it was the occasion of Rath Yatra when I found myself being interested in the saxophone and falling in love with its sound. Later, my father encouraged me to pursue playing the instrument,” said Dhanishree while adding that it was the harmonious sound of the instrument that drew her toward it.
The young Odia music prodigy is receiving her saxophone lessons in both online and offline forms in Kolkata and feels inspired by the late eminent saxophonist Manohari Singh.

Father's Full Support for Daughter’s Music Career
In firm support of her daughter, M Seemadri dedicates his time to taking her to West Bengal for her lessons and has extended full support for her music career.
“In perhaps 2022, I started teaching her (Dhanishree) the basics of saxophone and she quickly grasped it. It was when I learned that she holds immense talent and should be encouraged,” said Seemadri as a proud father.
