Taking a tough stance against unruly drivers, the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police on Saturday seized over 90 vehicles, including over 50 motorcycles in Bhubaneswar.
After a long gap, the Commissionerate Police has once again launched a drive against violations including driving or riding on the wrong side, re-modeling vehicle exhausts to create noise more than the permissible limits, etc.
The drive was launched at 11 places coming under Traffic Police Station-I and five places coming under Traffic Police Station-II. During the operation, around 70 vehicles were seized by the Traffic Police Station-I and over 20 by the Traffic Police Station-II.
Today, the traffic police stations were unusually crowded with people turning up to get their vehicles back.

Informing about the drive, Traffic Police Station IIC, Debendra Biswal said, “Acting on the DCP’s direction, a drive was launched against those who were driving and riding on the wrong side and motorcycles producing ear-piercing sounds. The drive was launched at 11 places under traffic police station-I and five places under traffic police station–II.”
“Actually, the police don’t have the power to take legal action against those who are found driving on the wrong side or driving in an inebriated state. This is why we are seizing the bikes of the offenders and submitting the Prosecution Report (PR) to the court. We release the vehicles only after owners deposit the fines and release orders are out,” he added.
