In a recent instance of alleged animal cruelty, residents of Baripada have been shocked by a disturbing scene involving a dog. It has been alleged that the animal was tied to a moving emergency vehicle of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) authorities and dragged along a section of NH-18 in Mayurbhanj district.
It remains unclear whether the dog was already dead or died during this brutal act.
As per sources, a conscious denizen captured the incident on his mobile phone from another vehicle while travelling on the NH on November 12, whose recorded footage has brought the event to broader attention, and public resentment.

The video depicting the act of ‘cruelty’ has left viewers appalled and there has been a growing demand for justice. The footage was so disturbing that many argued that the barbaric incident was a blot on a civilised society.
The incident took place on Gangraj Road near Baripada town. The NHAI vehicle is typically designated for rescue purposes in case of accidents on the NH. It is operating under the toll-free number 1033. But, on November 12, the vehicle was allegedly misused in an act of stark inhumanity rather than public service.
The video raises questions about the fate of a dog, seen tied to the moving vehicle. It remains unclear whether the animal was already dead or died due to the maltreatment reportedly by the driver, the sources added.

The disturbing act was captured by a local Ranjan Kumar Mishra travelling with family, who unfortunately could not apprehend the driver as he managed to flee the scene.
“I was travelling to Kuliana from Baripada along with my family at around 11.00 AM. I became perturbed seeing this and asked my daughter to make a video of it. Being an elderly man, I felt that the act was inhuman,” Ranjan Mishra said.
“It does not matter whether the dog was dead or alive, but it should not have been treated like this. Action should be taken against the wrongdoer,” the denizen demanded.
