Malkangiri: In an unfortunate incident, as many as three villagers were killed on Monday during an encounter between CRPF Jawans and Maoists in a jungle at Silger security camp in Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh which shares border with Malkangiri district.
According to reports, the fire-fight broke out after Naxals opened fire at a newly set up CRPF base camp along the inter- state border.
Since the past few days, a group of villagers were staging a protest in Silger, considered as a core area of the Red Rebels, against the security base camp which was set up last week.
According to police, the villagers had staged the protest allegedly under pressure from Naxals.

While the protest was on armed Naxals opened fire at the camp taking cover behind the villagers in the afternoon, following which the security personnel retaliated. Few Red Ultras have also lost their lives, police said.
“Bodies of three persons were recovered from the encounter site. Reinforcement was rushed to the spot and further details are awaited,” said Bastar Range Inspector General of Police (IG) P Sundarraj.
Earlier last month, as many as 22 security personnel were killed in one of the deadliest attacks on the security forces in Chhattisgarh in recent years.
