The Orissa High Court on Thursday sought a status report from the State government on the investigation into lady teacher Mamita Meher murder case in Kalahandi.
The next hearing in the case has been scheduled to be held on December 3.
State Home Secretary, DGP, Balangir Collector, Balangir SP and the Sindhekela police station IIC have been made respondents in the case.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the police investigation, the petitioners had alleged that the
delay in the completion of the investigation is putting huge mental pressure on the family members of the victim.
“The Court has directed the government advocate to collect all related information about the investigation process into the case and submit the status report at the earliest,” said Pradipta Kumar Mohanty, advocate for the petitioners.
Earlier a day before, BJP workers had launched a signature campaign in Bhubaneswar to seek justice for the family members of the victim.
The Opposition party activists had kicked off the campaign near the railway station at Master Canteen square demanding the resignation of the Minister of State (Home) Dibya Shankar Mishra for his alleged involvement in the case.
Members of a Women's Right Organisation had also met Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal seeking his intervention for a CBI probe into the murder case.
Social activists Namrata Chadha, Anjana Mishra, Preeti Dhal and others demanded an impartial probe into the case and urged the State government to clear the air about Minister Mishra's alleged involvement in it.
